Founded in 1940, Chikumashobo is a comprehensive publisher of humanities books and literature, in addition to many other categories of practical books across all genres. We acquire titles in various genres and publish Chikuma bunku (Chikuma Collection, pocket-sized paperback books), Chikuma Gakugei bunko (Scholastic Book Series, pocket-size), Chikuma shinsho (Chikuma Book Series on Journalism, paperback), Chikuma sensho (Chikuma Selection), and Primer shinsho (New Primer Series) textbooks for high school language arts, anthologies, and e-books. Chikumashobo finds new voices by awarding the Dazai Osamu Prize to up-and-coming writers with the co-sponsorship of Mitaka City.
I have edited translations of Kim Jiyoung, Born in 1982 (Mariko Saito, trans. 2018) and Her Name Is (Sonoko Osanai and Seungmi, trans.), both written by Cho Nam-joo, and the short story collections Double Side A and Double Side B (Mariko Saito, trans.) by Park Ming-yu. We at Chikumashobo are most interested in Korean literature and are keen to publish even more Korean titles in the future.
