Founded in 1926, SHUEISHA is one of the leading publishers in Japan with its comprehensive list of titles from a range of subjects and genres. Our main publication work centers around manga and magazines, but we also publish numerous books in literature and arts. With a decades-long history in publishing translated novels, we now seek to work more on translated literature.
Korean books are gaining great popularity in Japan—in particular, among young female readers. Korea and Japan have many things in common; among them is the acute awareness of patriarchy in society. I have recently become interested in Korea’s science fiction and have found many fine Korean titles in the sci-fi field in which the strong voices of female writers are notable. I wish to introduce science fiction or feminist literature, irrespective of genre, to the Japanese female readership.
